For practitioners
Mood Mod is a sugar-free drink mix built on Affron™, a standardized saffron extract studied in human mood trials. Here is what is in it, what the research shows and what it doesn't, and how to recommend it to the people you work with.

Four randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials used Affron™ at 28mg a day, including one in teens. We show the placebo result next to every number, because it matters.
72% vs 54%reached a clinically meaningful improvement on the primary mood measure (DASS-21), Affron vs placebo, p = 0.010
Described by its authors as the largest saffron trial to date. The primary outcome improved more with Affron than placebo (Cohen's d = 0.39). Other secondary outcomes showed no difference between groups, and the authors note a large placebo response.
Lopresti et al., Journal of Nutrition, 2025. PMID 4041430149% vs 26%reached a clinically meaningful improvement on the primary mood measure (DASS-21), Affron vs placebo, p = 0.026
Self-esteem and sleep-related impairment also improved, which the authors call exploratory. Sleep disturbance itself showed no difference between groups (p = 0.786).
Lopresti and Smith, Frontiers in Nutrition, 2026. PMID 4238970828mg vs 22mg28mg improved overall mood scores vs placebo (POMS, p < 0.001). 22mg showed no effect.
The earliest Affron mood trial, and the reason dose matters: the lower dose did nothing. Its main limitation is that screening and outcomes were self-reported.
Kell et al., Complementary Therapies in Medicine, 2017. PMID 2873582633% vs 17%average drop in youth-reported anxiety and low-mood scores (RCADS), Affron vs placebo, p = 0.029
Affron at 14mg twice a day (28mg total). The teens' own reports improved more with Affron than placebo, and it was well tolerated. Parent reports were less consistent, which the authors flag as a limitation.

Saffron has serotonergic activity. We don't suggest Mood Mod alongside SSRIs, SNRIs or other serotonergic medication or supplements without a clinician's okay.
Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
For anyone on prescription medication or managing a diagnosed condition, clinician judgment comes first. Designed for ages 13 and up; for anyone under 18, a parent and clinician should be part of the decision.

Tell us where to send it. Jay, our founder, follows up personally.
The trials measured results at 4 and 12 weeks, so we suggest daily use for at least a month before judging.
Most of the time, with your judgment. We would avoid stacking it with other serotonergic supplements such as St. John's wort or 5-HTP.
The trials used 28mg. Our 30mg sits in that range, and we never describe it as "the exact dose".
